Mar 29Dreamhost was upgrading rails to 1.1 and in the process, broke everyone’s rails apps on their servers. That’s pretty ghetto. I hope musiCal will be up soon, but I have no ETA. Maybe its time to switch to TextDrive.
Mar 29Hisashi Tenmyouya’s illustrations mix traditional Japanese style with modern ideas and images. I like this fighting game painting on gold leaf. (via Drawn!)
Mar 28Brandon Hardesty re-enacts movie scenes by himself. His renditions are excellent.
Mar 27Whats Jeff Mills up to these days? I took a gander on the interTron and saw that last summer he performed some of his tracks with the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra in the south of France. That’s right. A bunch of lucky frenchies got to hear ‘The Bells’ performed live by the wizard and an orchestra. Why couldn’t the bastard do that here in Chicago when played at summerdance?

Mar 27Editors were on Radio 1 a couple of weeks ago and they did a great cover of Feel Good, Inc. from Gorillaz (they threw in a little Munich too). The audio is up for download, but the site it’s on is a little goofy. Wait a bit for the page to load and the files should appear at the bottom. Here is the link.
Mar 27I busted out my copy of Jeff Mills’ “Live at the Liquid Room” mix a couple of days ago and was remembering how big of a fan I used to be. He was Greek tragedy for the 20th century. I took a philosophy class in college, and what I remember was learning about Greek tragedy being all about balancing the Apollonian and the Dionysian. The Apollonian was the dialogue in the tragedies because they were clean, ordered, and calculated. The chorus in the tragedies were Dionysian because they would made you get all buck wild. They were all about passion and excess. Jeff Mills would take these techno tracks which were Apollonian. They were all about structure and boundaries. The things he did to them, though, were very, very dirty and Dionysian. He was quick and dirty in his mixing style. You could hear him mess up every once and a while, but it didn’t matter because blurring these tracks to shit and it sounded amazing. There is my lucid thought for the month.
